The JHELP Team, led by experienced Disaster Campaigner, Ken Joseph Jr, has attended to the Miyagi Prefecture on the team’s 89th Disaster Relief Operation Worldwide.

On the 11th of March 2011, a 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake and resulting Tsunami struck the north eastern coast of mainland Japan, leaving destruction of whole homes, towns and separating families in its aftermath. Many people are still missing today. The JHELP team has been on site in Sendai since the 12th of March.

The Disaster in Japan has shocked the modern world. We all have obligation to assist Japan as they are a significant sponsor in many efforts overseas with the developing nations, and also have suffered loss of life which no development can prepare for.

Our obligations and gratitude to Japan has led to a large international and internal response from the NGOs. Donations and volunteers have been arriving from the US and as far as Israel. Most NGOs based here have never worked with each other albeit heard of each other as they are mainly working in locations far away from each other. It appears there has been too much reliance on the media and thus certain points have been overwhelmed with compassion and supply and others unknown to the public, ignored. Information is scarce due to a lack of communication between Centres and NGOs.

At JHELP our aim is to create a distribution system based on requests direct from evacuation centres from which we can pass onto NGOs and independent volunteers whom can meet those requests within the time frame requested. If you are interested in collaborating with other NGOs and being part of a evenly co-ordinated network, volunteering or if you would like to offer your home as a shelter for evacuees then please fill out the corresponding forms above.
